My name is Vito Delle Foglie, an Italian tattoo artist born in 1993 in Bari, Southern Italy. I grew up surrounded by the sea, great food, and art, a passion passed down to me by my father, sister, and brother.
At 16, I decided to leave school to pursue my dream of becoming a tattoo artist. I attended a professional course that allowed me to merge my passion for art with tattooing. I often felt like the black sheep in my neighborhood, as the goals of my peers were very different from mine.
At 17, I began my career as a tattoo artist, honing my skills for four years under the mentorship of Alessandro Signorile, a renowned tattoo artist from Bari. My desire to learn was so strong that I even dreamed of the sound of coil machines at night. After completing my apprenticeship, I moved to London with my friend Nikolas, despite not speaking a word of English. After a few months of struggle, I began to communicate and found work at Camden Piercing and Tattoo. Thanks to managers Lee and Rick, I not only learned the language but also the management side of running a studio in a global capital.
After a year in London, I returned to Italy to fulfill my dream: opening my own tattoo studio. Despite many bureaucratic challenges, on May 9, 2019, "The Brotherhood Tattoo Shop" was born, a name inspired by the bond with a close friend.
In the early months of my business, I participated in the Caserta Tattoo Convention, where I won first place in the color realistic tattoo category, a rewarding achievement after years of perfecting my artistic techniques.
However, in March 2020, the global pandemic forced all businesses, including my studio, to close. Faced with this setback, I decided to move to Amsterdam to start a new chapter in my life.
Upon arriving in Amsterdam, I immediately began searching for a studio. Within just a day, I found myself tattooing in the heart of the Red Light District alongside two Spanish brothers who, like me, had left everything behind to build something new.
During this time, I lived for over four months in a hostel I dubbed "Hostelloland," where I met people from all over the world. Together, we formed a family, supporting each other in this unique experience.
Over time, Amsterdam began to recognize my work, and for the first time, I was invited to exhibit a painting at an art show. The theme was "The Year of the Tiger," marking another significant milestone in my artistic career.
In 2022, after spending three months in Ibiza tattooing at my friend Gianluca’s studio, I decided to return to Amsterdam. This is where my journey continued at Friendship Tattoo Shop, a place where I have found not only colleagues but also friends with whom I share my days.
And here we are. I’ve shared my story with you so that when you decide to get a tattoo from me, you’ll take away not just a design on your skin, but a piece of Vito Delle Foglie a fragment of this long and intense journey.
